Starcatchers

Ice Pole by Katy Wilson (c) Neil Thomas Douglas

Since 2006, STARCATCHERS residencies, performances, training and network events have connected with over 40,000 babies, toddlers, parents, carers, teachers, artists and other professionals.

The majority of work has taken place in Scotland, but performances have also taken place in: London, Germany, Italy, Spain, Austria, Finland, Belgium, France, Lichtenstein, the USA and Canada.

The groundbreaking STARCATCHERS project was first piloted in 2006 by North Edinburgh Arts Centre and was specifically targeted at creating theatre performances and creative experiences for very young children, aged 0-4 in Scotland.

Following the success of the pilot, STARCATCHERS became part of national arts organisation Imaginate in 2009, which kick-started a 2 year programme of activities designed to engage with communities in Scotland.

The programme included: a series of artist residencies; the presentation of new productions; training for educators; and a period of academic research conducted by Strathclyde University.

STARCATCHERS has now been set up as a separate company to continue to develop and create performances and creative experiences for very young children in Scotland.

Imaginate’s STARCATCHERS programme received investment from Creative Scotland through the National Lottery Inspire Fund with additional support from the Small Size, Big Citizens European Project.

Imaginate is a national arts organisation leading in the promotion, development and celebration of the performing arts for children and young people in Scotland.
